Creating a Simple Site in Dreamweaver

In this lesson you’ll create a simple web site in Macromedia Dreamweaver. It should take about 5 minutes.

Macromedia Dreamweaver is the web page design software well be using in this class. We’re using the Macromedia MX group of tools (version 6).

This page shows how to make a simple web page using Dreamweaver.

1)      Start the Dreamweaver program. You’ll find it in the Start menu:

2)      Before you can make a web page you must create a web site. A web site is a group of web pages and graphics that are related to each other.

Click on “Define a Site”, over on the right hand side of the window:

This will bring up a “Wizard” that will ask you questions about your web site.

3)      Enter the name of your web site. Use your name and the word “Sandbox”. In computer-speak, a “sandbox” is a place to play. This web site is just a place to experiment with Dreamweaver.

Click “Next”

4)      Choose “No, I do not want to use a server technology”. Server technologies are used by more advanced web sites.

Click “Next”

5)      Choose to “Edit local copies on my machine…”.

The location  in “Where on your computer do you want to store your files” should point to a folder with the same name as your site that is inside your “My Documents” folder.

Click “Next”

6)      Choose “None” for “How do you connect to your remote server?” The remote server is where your web page goes when it is “live” on the web. For now, your web page will not be live.

Click “Next” and then “Done”

7)      You’ve now created a web site.
